Philip Cobb - trumpet

Philip Cobb was delighted to accept the Principal Trumpet position with the London Symphony Orchestra in July 2009 whilst still only 21 years of age.

As a youngster, Philip regularly featured as a soloist on both the cornet and the trumpet throughout the UK and abroad alongside his brother Matthew and their father Stephen. In more recent years he has appeared as a soloist in his own right, and was recently featured as a solo performer in London's Royal Albert Hall, as well as at the International Trumpet Guild conference in Boston, USA.

Philip is a former student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, having studied with Principal Trumpet of the London Philharmonic Orchestra; Paul Beniston and also with renowned trumpet soloist Alison Balsom. Upon graduation, Philip was trialling for positions in the London Philharmonic and Halle orchestras before accepting his current position with the London Symphony Orchestra.

In 2006 Philip competed in the prestigious Maurice André International Trumpet Competition. With former prize winners going on to achieve international acclaim as both soloists and orchestral performers, Philip was awarded one of the major prizes in the competition as the Most Promising Performer. He was also awarded the 'Candide Award' at the London Symphony Orchestra's Brass Academy in 2008.
In September 2007 Philip released his debut solo CD; 'Life Abundant' with the Cory Band and Organist Ben Horden.


Chris Evans - trumpet

Having recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Chris holds an esteemed reputation as a very fine orchestral and solo trumpet player. He has worked with many orchestras in and around London including the Philharmonia, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Bath Philharmonia under the direction of conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Marin Alsop and Yan Pascal Tortelier.

Chris has won various competitions for his performances as a soloist including First Prize in the Guildhall's prestigious Armourers and Brasiers Brass Prize and also the opportunity to perform in the Concordia Foundation recital series. In 2009 Chris won awards from the Musicians Benevolent Fund, Craxton Memorial Trust and the Philharmonia's Martyn Musical Scholarship Fund; the latter allowing Chris the chance to perform a solo recital in the Royal Festival Hall in February 2010.

Throughout his musical education Chris has been actively involved with the Surrey County Youth Orchestra. He has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and one of the youngest participants to win a place on the LSO St. Lukes Brass Academy in 2004.

With a passion for solo work and chamber music, Chris has recently performed a series of world premiere solo works in the BBC Proms Plus by the French composer Louis Andriessen.


Andrew Littlemore - french horn

Andrew is currently Co-Principal Horn with the Orchestra of Opera North. Performing regularly with the Philharmonia and the London Philharmonic Orchestras Andrew has also performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and appeared as a trialist on Principal Horn with the Royal Philharmonic and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestras.

Andrew began learning the horn whilst he was a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for three years and in his final year with the Orchestra he was invited to play Principal Horn. Andrew graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2008 where he studied with Jeff Bryant, Richard Bissill, Hugh Seenan and David Pyatt. Also at this time, Andrew was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra.

Having always enjoyed playing chamber music Andrew performed a world Premier by Roxanna Panufnik in 2008 which he repeated in the Temple Song Recital Series in 2009 with Patricia Rozario and Julius Drake.


Steven Haynes - trombone

Steven's musical education began at the age of nine both as a choral scholar at Wakefield Cathedral and playing with local brass bands near his home in Yorkshire. Having played with the Black Dyke, Brighouse and Rastrick, Fairey and Grimethorpe Colliery bands, Steven still enjoys playing with his local band; Rothwell Temperance, on Christmas day every year.

Steven studied with Lindsay Shilling at the Royal College of Music and spent a year of his undergraduate course at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, studying with Dietmar Küblböck and Ian Bousfield from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Whilst in Austria, he was supported by the Royal Philharmonic Society's Julius Isserlis Scholarship and at this time, played with the Hofmusikkapelle Orchestra, reached the final of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Soloist competition and was selected as a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra.

Following on from his undergraduate degree Steven embarked upon a Masters Degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. A Scholar at the GSMD; Steven benefitted from the tutorage of Eric Crees, Peter Gane and Simon Wills.

His orchestral experience is extensive and includes trials for Principal Trombone with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Sub Principal Trombone with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and performances with the Philharmonia, BBC Concert and Bournemouth Symphony orchestras and also Opera North and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Performing with the National Symphony Orchestra, Steven has enjoyed working with artists such as Katherine Jenkins, Hayley Westenra, Russell Watson and Aled Jones.

Steven also enjoys regularly playing in several West End musicals and has performed in Evita (Adelphi Theatre), Spamalot (Palace Theatre), Chicago (Cambridge Theatre), Carousel (Savoy Theatre), Sister Act (London Palladium), Oliver! (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Legally Blonde (Savoy Theatre) and was delighted to be asked to play in the 50th anniversary production of West Side Story.


David Kendall - tuba

Originally from Southampton, David moved to London to study with Patrick Harrild at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Following on from his studies, David stayed in London where he is now in high demand for his talents as an orchestral tuba player. Working with the London Philharmonic, London Symphony, BBC Symphony, Bournemouth Symphony and English National Ballet orchestras, David has travelled all over the world and was delighted to be invited to play with the Hyogo Performing Arts Centre Orchestra in Japan in 2009. David is also a hugely experienced chamber musician and soloist having performed both the Vaughan Williams and Edward Gregson tuba concertos with the City of Southampton and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras.
